"We disagreed on almost everything at that town hall — the budget, the school board, all of it. Voices were getting sharp, and I could feel the room starting to turn ugly. Then a woman two rows up stood up and said, 'Before you respond, can you just help me understand where you're coming from?' It caught everyone off guard. The next person who spoke slowed down. So did the one after that. By the end of the meeting we still disagreed on most of it, but nobody left angry — and a few of us are still talking."
